Worldwide Photowalk 2010 – Denver Skyline

I was excited to signup for the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk this year with the same bunch of #togs from the last two walks. This year’s walk was planned for downtown Denver, near the Pepsi Center. I wasn’t too thrilled with the location at first, but any chance to get out and shoot is an opportunity for something to happen.

I ended up shooting almost 6GBs of imagery! And I’m still processing images 4 weeks later.

I did find a new spot to shoot the Denver skyline and I was thrilled with that. Here’s one image from that location, showing the Tabor Center building on the right, and the downtown skyline center and left. I am definitely going to have to return to this spot!

Fireworks 2010

A collection of fireworks images from last weekend’s show at the Colorado National Golf Club near my house in Erie. Katherine, Sofia and I sat at the back of the 1st Green and watched the 15 minute show with a few dozen others, while the main crowds sat up on the driving range. A this new spot proved to be a great spot both for viewing the fireworks and for a quick exit away from the traffic jams around the club house!

Denver Christmas Lights

Met up with a few photography friends last night on a short-notice holiday light shoot in downtown Denver. This is the Denver City and County Building across the garden/grass mall from the Capitol building near downtown Denver. Every year they light up this building and I’ve always wanted to come down and capture it, but I’ve never taken the time until this year. In fact, something similar to the fourth image (portrait mode) won Grand Prize at our Louisville Art Association‘s 2009 National Juried Photography Show.

Lightpainting – Steamboat Barn

Spent a little time this weekend up in Steamboat trying a different approach to photographing the Steamboat iconic barn.

Nighttime Photography – Montreal

On a recent vacation to Montreal to visit Katherine’s mother Sonia and her cousins, I took the opportunity to do a little nighttime photography with the excellent guide services of Sonia’s husband Georges, who has lived in Montreal since 1967. I think we must have put several hundred miles onto his car during that vacation– he was so gracious, always willing to take me around to show me his home city. It was beautiful!

First up is the view of downtown Montreal from West Mount.

Next, we have a couple images of Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount-Royal. This is a beautiful church of fairly modern architecture, nothing like the architecture of the Church of Notre Dame (see below) located in Old Town Montreal, but still beautiful and rich in history.

Finally, here are three images from the inside of the Basilique Notre-Dame de Montreal–stunningly beautiful!

I really love my Nikon D90 and it’s ability to correctly expose tricky situations like these photographs. My previous camera would have been lost if given these shooting conditions. This camera is awesome!

I have more photos from a previous day’s adventures up north of Montreal in search of the last Maple leaves of the season too, but for another post.
