Fall Colors in Colorado

Having spent the past weekend in Steamboat Springs, I give this update on the fall colors here in Colorado….

The Aspen groves on the west facing slopes are still about 7-10 days away from peaking. While the groves on the east facing slopes are about 3-5 days away from peaking. The Aspens in and around Steamboat Springs were quite green still, yet on the east side of Rabbit Ears Pass, they were almost at peak (some families has already lost all their leaves).

I’m thinking this weekend will be prime time to see the changing of the colors this year. Earlier this month I was predicting an early peak to the colors given the wet, cool summer we’ve had. But given what I saw in Steamboat this weekend, we’re having a normal cycle of the changing of the leaves, meaning near the end of September is when they’ll peak.

Get out and walk amongst nature’s glory this weekend before the leaves are gone….
