A couple of winters ago, I was out shooting barns and retired ski boots near Steamboat Springs around Thanksgiving, when I came across this beautiful ranch setting and a wonderful sunset. I’ve processed several images from this same trip, but I’ve not processed and posted this particular image (I don’t think) until now.
And with this new theme on my web site, I can display my imagery in a much larger format for better viewing. What do you think of the change to the website and of this image?

I’ve been working on images from this trip since December 2011. Steve Parker and I stood in the freezing temps (~5 degrees with wind) on a bluff overlooking the area surrounding the Steamboat Ski Resort one night back in December, shooting HDR images….
Yikes! That was a cold day. Same day Steve and I shot the Catamount Barn photos….
Definitely a work in progress, but tell me what you think so far? I’ve been trying to teach myself a newer/better HDR post-processing workflow as defined Rob Hanson and recently published as a series of video tutorials on Picture Correct. Each segment runs about 13-15 minutes, but it’s a really good tutorial and very easy to follow along — if you have Photomatix Pro and Photoshop! But I highly recommend it.

Here’s a couple more images from my long weekend in Steamboat Springs back in early December. Steve Parker and I watched and waited for this sunset as it progressed from “good” to “outstanding”, but when we finally got out to shoot it, the wind had whipped up to add to the frigid temperatures already. I think the wind chill made for a chilly -5 degrees.
Both of these images are 3-shot HDRs, processed in Photomatix Pro.
